Every state, city, and village either has odor ordinances or treats obnoxious odors perceptible beyond property lines as public disturbances/nuisance.All household plumbing vent stacks produce odors including that "rotten egg" smell caused by hydrogen sulfide gas. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas is heavier than air and thus falls to "nose level" quickly when the wind blows just right.OSHA warns that levels of 300 ppm (H2S)cause the olfactory nerve to lose sensitivity. At first a "rotten egg" odor is detected but on the second or third breath, the odor is no longer noticed. All of the above have associated fines or other penalties for the creation of odors at large.
Will you install my Sweetfilter? Who else sells them? Who else uses them?Any handyman can do the job. Units easily slide over existing vent pipes and tighten into place with a screwdriver.HandymanUSA.com and MrHandyman.com offers install services nationwide.Sweetfilter Sales Associates A Few Of Our Associates Who Knows About Our Products A Few Of Our Friends
How do I know if a www.Sweetfilter.com will solve my odor problem? This is the number one question asked. If the odor is coming from outside the structure and being pulled into the house we can help. Your neighbors usually smell it long before you do so ask them if they smell any outside odors and tell them about Sweetfilters. You can also test where the odor comes from by filling all your tubs and sinks with water. Then flush all toilets and empty the full tubs and sinks at the same time. Then go outside. If the odor is coming from outside the structure we can help. If odor is coming from inside the structure see situation alternatives explained below and also click here WHAT IS A STINK PIPE?
How do outside odors get into the house? This is the number two question asked. Whenever you operate clothes dryers, washing machines, sinks, toilets, furnaces(furnaces destroy the odors in the air they use), fireplaces, water softeners, bathroom vent fans, etc., your house breathes in stinky outside air and expells inside air. The only solution for you and your neighborhood (they usually smell it long before you do) is a Sweetfilter.
Doesn't the Sweetfilter restrict the airflow? The restriction is so slight (it has a pressure differential measured at only 1.15” w.g./ft @ 50 fpm) that it does not interfere with normal venting of the plumbing system. Sweetfilters animal resistant self-cleaning screens coupled with the frost proof insulating and solar heat absorbtion design characteristics, protects the vent pipe from plugging in all seasons.
How long will they last? Can the homeowner replenish the zeocarbon in the Sweetfilter?Sweetfilters are unique to all vent pipe filters in that they actually regenerate themselves for up to 5 years. First, we use zeocarbon. Zeocarbon is a mixture of carbon and zeolite rock which has been independently demonstrated to work up to 7 times longer than regular carbon alone. Secondly, we use sunlight. The exterior, interior, and zeocarbon replacement bags themselves are impregnated with titanium dioxide (approximately the same quantity and type in most popular toothpastes on the market). When exposed to direct sunlight the titanium dioxide produces ozone which directly destroys odors and regenerates the zeocarbon. When combined with "no flow periods" common to most households, this design allow us to operate up to 5 years without refilling the units. Competitors units completely block any regenerative UV sunlight through the use of opaque rain caps and guards that promote the development of odor producing bacteria. However, because the zeocarbon can only absorb so much gas, the Sweetfilter is designed with a low cost, easily replaceable insert bags. Purchase a replacement zeocarbon filter insert online.. ZEOCARB REFILLS
For what situations is the Sweetfilter intended?
For situations where the septic gas odor (hydrogen sulfide or "sewer gas") is coming out of the vent pipe on the roof. The Sweetfilter carbon filter not only traps sewer gases at the roof vent so they cannot escape into the air at all but it also means less air pollution from greenhouse gases, particularly ammonia, carbon dioxide (global warming) and hydrogen-sulfide, (the rotten-egg smelling gas), which the filter traps ona 18-24% wt/wt basis and used zeocarbon acts as an excellent source of nitrogen when mixed with soil. Even though the Sweetfilter is installed directlyon and in the vent pipe, its frost proof design is such that it not only does not impede air being drawn into the vent, it prevents hoar frost plugging and keeps out insects and critters.
Also for vents that are directly connected to aerated or non aerated septic tanks, septic mounds, drain fields, landfill vents, compost vents, etc..
In many instances, city-sewer connections bring www.sewersmell.com gas into the home's plumbing vents which vent the gases out theroof vent and often down into the back yard where they can be drawn into the home. The Sweetfilter has proven beneficial in those cases too!
Will the Sweetfilter work upside down or on its side?Yes, the original unique self-wicking media bag design used with all our Sweetfilters allow operation in any position. In addition they can be regenerated in-place without having to remove the unit from service.
When we move in close to the Sweetfilter we get an "earthy" smell. The residential Sweetfilters will operate to remove most of the odor...even up close there is only an "earthy" smell. However, our commercial Xpellets replacement bags fit all residential units and can be used to quickly eliminate close proximity "earthy" smells for special events. Xpellets require annual replacement, follow state and local guidelines for disposal.
What about installing larger units with more carbon or just extending the vent pipe a few feet?Standard whole house air filters and carbon furnace filters typically use 3 ounces of activated carbon and last for years. It is not the quantity of carbon used in a filter but the surface area covered that determines effective odor removal. A wider/shorter Sweetfilter with more surface area is much more effective than a skinny/tall unit. A 4.55" SF-110 body on a 1.5" vent pipe is many times more effective than a smaller diameter unit with the same height. So effectiveness is not how many lbs of activated carbon used. Effectiveness is more highly influenced by container design surface area when all other parameters are equal. However, all other parameters are definitely not equal because we use Zeocarbon(tm). Sweetfilter Zeocarbon units remove odors up to 7.7 times that of activated carbon alone as determined by independent studies. Also our zeolite mix also removes ammonia (urine odor). No activated carbon only unit can make that claim. Extending vent pipe stacks will sometimes alleviate the problem, but more often they make the problem worse. The reason your vent stack is not 10 feet tall is the "weight and wind load" of tall, heavy, vent stacks usually require significant structural redesign of the roof supports and rain leak prevention flashing. Low profile, light weight, SWEETFILTER units minimize wind load bearing stress and weight on the vent pipe roofing structure. Most competitors completely ignore this fact with their "wind sail" designs and overkill weights.
In what situations will the Sweetfilter not work? The Sweetfilter WILL NOT solve your odor problem if:
- Odors in the soil treatment area....the odor is originating from the drain field or mound. RODXPAM will stop odors from drain fields overnight....however, if the odor is coming from an aerated system, SWEETFILTER II Xpellets Commercial units have eliminated the problem in these systems. Also be sure to filter all washing machine fibers. Modern day washing machines produce enough non-biodegradable lint fibers to carpet your living room annually and will make your soil treatment system fail quickly. (see LINT TRAPS.COM for these problems.)- Odors in the house....if the odor is originating from any leaks in the septic tank or indoor plumbing (odor both inside and outside). If you suspect that sewer gas is leaking into your home from your plumbing, contact your local public health department. Try to get an inspection. Alternatively, you can call in a plumber to make sure the vent pipe on your roof is not plugged (avoid "T" type or "cone" type roof vent pipe structures which project building heat outward or downward to continuously melt snow to drip, promoting roof damaging ice dam formation by others). If you do use a "rain cap" then you will need our PEC SM-5 ICE MELT SOCKS to melt your roof ice dams.Besides, you want the toxic vent gases to be projected upward, away from "nose level," as specified by plumbing codes. Directing vent gases downward or sideways which increases the likelyhood of odor at your and your neighbors "nose level". Most states, like Minnesota, also prohibit the use of one-way vent valves that stop the flow of air in or out of the vent pipe. In addition, sewer gas is highly flammable and very explosive (even a tiny electric motor spark will set it off...... plumbing codes won't allow electric vent fans on any septic vent stacks), don’t take any chances. If the smell is strong, get out of the house, call the fire department, and avoid striking matches or using electrical appliances. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ON OR IN VENT PIPES IF YOU HAVE INDOOR ODORS...THIS COULD MAKE THE INDOOR PROBLEM WORSE. If the smell is weak or only occasional our Bio-R.com monthly additive continues to solve these type of indoor odor problems with regular use in every toilet/drain in the structure. If our filters don't solve your septic odor problem, send them back within 90 days of the order date for a FULL REFUND. (Please call to get a return authorization and instructions for www.zeocarbon.com bag removal procedure first.. 866-422-0018. DO NOT return used carbon bags for any reason.
Rain caps? The inside contents of the Sweetfilter are always "warm and wet" during normal operation. During long periods of inactivity the Sweetfilter slowly regenerates itself. Rain and sunlight penetration to the Zeocarbon actually speed regeneration of the Sweetfilter during normal operation. Rain caps are not recommended because they stop direct sunlight penetration for regeneration, direct warm air down to the shingles melting snow and increasing roof damaging ice dam formation by others, they increase hoar frost production and plugging, they increase the formation of H2SO2, sulfurous "acid " which corrodes metal quickly and can destroy thinwall steel rain caps or metal roof flashing in days. Rain caps and any other rain protectedopenings act as shelters attracting birds, insects, and other animals for nesting. In addition, it is a well documented fact that air purification units that only utilize activated carbon granules find that when they get damp or wet the granules cake together and are ineffective. To minimize caking of the activated carbon granules these manufacturers recommend using "rain caps." Very interesting, since the inside of all functional plumbing vent pipes is wet by design. In contrast, Sweetfilters use Zeocarbon and Xpellets with are both hydroscopic and the granules DO NOT cake together. In addition openly screened odor vents pipes like Sweetfilters, discourage animal nesting and reduce windload on the roof structures. All Sweetfilter Frost Proof designs provide an insular gas space between the vent pipe and flexible seal Sweetfilter flange allowing for warm vent gas circulation. This design offers improved heat insulating and solar heat absorbtion characteristics that prohibit hoar frost plugging common to all non-circulating, direct fit, coupled vent pipe filters, especially those with metal rain caps. Thieves Are stealing Manhole Covers
It is a real epidemic and a danger to people including children, dogs and cats, automobiles, motorcycles, and trucks. It is happening in cities, towns, and boroughs. It is robbing us of tax dollars we do not have to spend. Philadelphia has spent $300,000 at last count. Manholes can be thirty feet deep or more. If someone falls into an open manhole they could easily be maimed or even killed. Two young people were injured in recent months when they accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole. If you hit an open manhole with a car, motorcycle, or truck you can end up with a sizable repair bill and a flat tire.
In Philadelphia alone more than 2,500 covers and grates have disappeared in the past year. The average in the past was about 100 a year. Thieves have stripped some neighborhood roads so bad you have to be a defensive driver to avoid the open manholes. Philadelphia Water Department now has an employee acting as an under cover police officer watching the junk yards to see who is selling the manhole covers for scrap metal. They call the police in when they see someone selling metal manhole covers they have stolen.
State houses are working to pass tighter laws to prevent this from happening with new regulations for junkyards. Most junkyards record your diver's license number, vehicle license, and take pictures of the load of scrap you are selling. Thieves are sometimes experts, removing the registered seals on manhole covers and cutting them up so they are not recognizable.
Police tie the crime spree in scrap metal to the weak economy and the high price of all scrap metals. Heavy melt steel, the medium grade used for manhole covers is $519 a metric ton. Thieves can get $5 to $40 depending on size and weight of the manhole covers. It has hit all parts of our country except New York City. Long Beach California is trying to design vinyl or plastic manhole covers. It is happening in Europe too.
Some cities have welded the manhole covers in place, but this creates another problem. Manholes are there so workmen can get in to repair water lines, electrical systems, sewer lines, etc. This is the reason for manholes. There are new manhole covers that lock in place when they are installed, this seems to be the best answer for now. This takes time and they are expensive. Where you have locking manholes you still need Odor Eliminator Inserts with Inflow protectors and SWEETFILTER lV are manufactured to fit with lockable manhole covers. The largest city in the Midwest is our first sale to be installed.

Some Early Beginning of Global Warming, Its Causes, and How We Will Yet GREEN Our Earth
Global warming is the result of mankind’s greed and selfishness. We have known it was going to catch up with us since I was in college in the early 1950's. We were aware fluorocarbons were destroying the ozone layers, yet we were continuing to dump refrigerants into the atmosphere without regard of how they would destroy the beautiful world God created for us. The Corporations that produced the gases used in the refrigeration and spray can industries, and the engineers that designed equipment and other things, were aware of the damage they were doing. They and we looked the other way thinking it would be a long time before we felt the hurt.
I grew up in the refrigeration industry, as did my father before me, and his father before him. My grandfather designed the first mechanical ice plants to store beer and other perishable products, including meat, produce, and ice for the home icebox. The first mass production freezer belts that froze vegetables, meat and pies were tunnels where fluorocarbons were sprayed in liquid form directly on the raw products. After the liquid froze the product it evaporated, and as the heavier gas fell to the bottom of the tunnel it was exhausted into the air outside. There was no attempt at recovery. This went on until fluorocarbons were phased out completely in 1996 by the Montreal Protocol.
The ozone layer is a layer in the Earth's atmosphere containing relatively high concentrations of ozone (O3). This layer absorbs approximately 94% of the sun's high frequency ultraviolet light. If it is not absorbed, life as we know it ends. Charles Fabry and Henri Buisson discovered the ozone layer in 1913. G.M.B. Dobson explored its properties. He established a worldwide network of ozone monitoring stations between 1928 and 1958, which continue to operate today.
The ozone layer can be depleted by free radical catalysts, including atomic bromine (Br), atomic chlorine (Cl), hydroxyl (OH), and nitric oxide (NO). While there are natural sources for all these compounds, the concentrations of bromine and chlorine have increased due to the release of large quantities of manmade organohalogen compounds, especially bromofluorcarbons and chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). These highly stable compounds are capable of surviving the rise to the stratosphere where Cl and Br radicals are liberated by the action of ultraviolet light. Their lifetime is 50 to 100 years, and much of the world is still dumping them. These elements cause the ozone holes we have all heard about. This was only one of the causes that could have been completely avoided, and it to lead to the warming of the temperature at the poles and the subsequent rising sea level.
With the price of gas at $4.10 a gallon, and heating oil suppliers demanding up to $7.00 a gallon for prepaid contracts, (with an additional $400 a year insurance policy to guarantee the supplier is paid if the price goes above $7.00 a gallon) some people may be forced to choose between heating their home, putting gas in the car, or food on the table. It is little consolation that customers will be refunded the difference if the price of the heating oil averages less than $7.00 at the end of the heating season.
In the long term these high-energy prices may work to our advantage. Some overseas businesses have already come home due to the high cost of shipping, and we will be forced to cut back on our carbon producing activities. The Electric Power Companies are already thinking about what to do with the carbon dioxide. They are designing methods using algae to capture the Carbon Dioxide from coal burning plants. A team at Ohio University created a photo bioreactor that uses photosynthesis to grow algae, then passing the carbon dioxide from the plant over collection membranes. The algae grown by this process can be used to make biodiesel fuel and feed for animals.
The future uses of algae products produced by coal burning power plants will replace the wood products used in activated carbon. Sweetfilter uses Zeocarbon as our chemical to remove stink pipe odor. Zeocarbon is a proprietary mixture of Zeolite and activated carbon. Zeolite is a natural volcanic rock. Currently the activated carbon used in Zeocarbon is derived from wood products but this will change. We will work together to save this island home, our Earth, and make it GREEN again!

Research On Refills For Vent Stack Filters Often Called Stink Pipe Filters
When you purchase replacement chemicals for your odor eliminator filters for rooftop sewer or septic tank vent stacks, first check which chemicals are in the media and which odors they mask or absorb. The vent stack is often called a stink pipe because it is designed to vent all sewer gas. After all, that is the reason you installed the filter. You want to buy a chemical media that functions through oxidation followed by adsorption and absorption. The replacement chemical's formula should have Hydrogen Sulfide as its primary target. Ammonia is the second target. Hydrogen Sulfide is most often referred to as H2S (rotten egg odors) and the secondary target is Ammonia (urine odors). In many situations, Ammonia is present at problematic levels. H2S odors present in vent stacks from sewers and septic tanks are another problem.
Pellets of Chlorine Dioxide, referred to as ClO2, does a great job on H2S and other bad odors. It does not react with Ammonia as a chlorinating agent nor as an oxidant. This is a strong, positive reason to search for a media that can remove Ammonia. There is a chemical formula that can remove Ammonia at a fraction of the cost of other chemical removal formulas. Search it out and you will find it will remove other Nitrogen based odors as well. It also will remove primary and secondary amines. This means it is better or equal to the media in you current filter. It does not clump as does charcoal and in field tests , it has worked in vent stack filters for five years before the chemical media needed to be replaced.
There are numerous odor eliminating chemical medias on the market today. The best ones use a combination of the same chemical formula. This type of odor eliminator chemical media is the best for refills. They all have refill bags that are designed to fit 2-inch, 3-inch, and 4-inch vent stack filters. The pricing is very competitive on all odor eliminator chemical media made with these formulas, and they are superior products. Unlike straight carbon based media these products are not affected by the weather.
Always wear gloves when you remove the any existing media, and dispose of it in a plastic bag that you can seal. When you are installing any new refills always place them in the filter vent housing as directed by the manufacturer of the chemical. Find a chemical media made with materials that can be spaded into your plant beds; they can be a great fertilizer. Let's help make this island home, our earth, GREEN!
Do not open the polyester refill bag that any chemical media comes in. They all adjust to fit the shape of the housing of your filter.

Preventing Frost Buildup On Sewer-Septic Tank Rooftop Vent Stacks-Stinkpipes
This is how to prevent frost buildup on your sewer vent pipe so you can install an odor eliminator. This is an email I received from one of my readers. "I have read a few articles by you on the internet regarding septic issues. We live in Askov, Minnesota (near Duluth) and experience frost build up in our vent stacks. My husband and I are older and really should not be climbing on the roof to clean these out (about once every one or two months) in the winter. Are Odor Eliminator filter caps appropriate for use in Minnesota? Will they prevent the frost build up? Thanks in advance for your help."
This started some serious thinking since I was not aware that in the far North stack vent pipes could frost shut blocking the vent. We all know if the vent is blocked the toilet will flush but the waste will not flow down the drain, in fact no drain in the building will work. That is why it is against all building and plumbing codes to install any valve in a rooftop sewer/septic tank vent stack.
In most new homes or buildings we insulate only the attic floor which is on top of the ceiling in any home or building. Some designs only have a crawl space below the roof. The roof itself is only insulated in a totally sealed building today.
We go to great lengths in design today to keep warmth away from the actual roof plywood and shingles to present the thawing/freezing cycles that cause ice dams and resulting roof damage. So we want the roof to be as cool as possible. You should insulate the vent stack in the attic between the attic floor and attic roof and then put an odor eliminator filter on the outside stacks. There then should be roughly 6" to 8" of stack sticking out of the roof on the outside.
The inside temperature of all vents in the house is the same temperature as the rest of the house. The air temperature in septic tanks is the same as the ground that surrounds them. The ground temperature in North America is 52 degrees year round above the freeze line which is about 2 to 4 feet down in the earth depending on your area.
If the vent stack is more than a few inches above the roof line it needs to be wrapped with insulation in the winter. If the temperature of the vent stack pipe in the attic is below freezing the odor eliminator filter will not work, it must be insulated. If the house temperature is below 52 degrees Fahrenheit the odor eliminator filter will not work.
Some odor eliminator filter designs insulate the stack inside it with the equivalent of 1 inch of air insulation. I would not worry about the odor eliminator filter if the conditions are correct. I know of one company who has them on vent stacks in schools in Alaska.

Filtering Units For Removing Odor From Vent Pipes Aree Alike And Different
Filtering units for removing odor from plumbing vent pipes, most often referred to as stink pipes by plumbers, are the best solution age old problem of stink coming out of the plumbing/septic tank roof vent. The vent is design to release gas to the outside air so the waste water can flow down the drains. What are the differences between the various manufacturers? They are all similar in appearance with the outer shell made of PVC and ABS design. Sweetfilter was epoxy coated Black. Sweetfilter, VentPure, and Peacemaker show they are registered. Sweetstack has one way off and on valves and cannot be sold in Minnesota. OdorHog is now available with solar powered exhaust fan. Is that an added part to fail? VentPure and SweetAir units have rain cap because their chemical medias must be protected from moisture.
All chemical medias are a mixture of Carbon with other additives. You have to check the chemistry, or be a chemist, to see which is really the best chemical. What the home owner is looking for is a chemical media whose primary target is Hydrogen Sulfide. Hydrogen Sulfide produces that rotten egg odor that any home owner is familiar with if they have any type plumbing problem. The secondary problem is the Ammonia which produces the urine odor.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is only place to search to find if a design is patented or a brand name is registered. Only Sweetfilter is registered with The United States Patent and Trademark Office. There are no other sewer/septic tank odor eliminator vent filter units registered!
VentPure and Peacemaker were registered in individual States only. Any brand name that has a registered Trademark in a State only, can be copied in another State. In Federal Court you cannot protect your brand name unless you have registered it in The United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Sweetstack, OdorHog, VentPure, Peacemaker, and SweetAir filtering units are made primarily with the common chemical mixtures for removing odor from plumbing vent pipes and can never get a Federal Registration. Sweetstack and SweetAir have Sweet in their name. Sweetfilter is registered, Sweetstack and SweetAir cannot be registered in The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
What unit is best? What unit should you the home owner purchase to install? Sweetfilter, Sweetstack, OdorHog, VentPure, Peacemaker, and SweetAir are all similar, but are all different, only you the home owner can make the finial decision. You want your filter to operate like a odor eliminator on your roof top vent, most often referred to as a stink pipe, You want the smell to be gone!

Help Keep Our World GREEN
Combined Manhole Inserts for Odor Control and Inflow Protectors in Boroughs, Towns and Cities are a must in today’s GREEN World
Nearly all municipalities suffer with odor problems from Manholes and Inflow to manholes. During dry weather Manholes can be the source of vile sewer odors. The main odor culprit is Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), but other malodorous compounds are present, as well. Systems for treating air usually require electrical power and/or clean water. Sealing covers moves the problem down the line or through the vents of neighboring homes and business. During rainy weather, an average Manhole allows slugloads from 4,000 to 12,000 gallons per day of rainwater, to enter the treatment system. Manhole inserts with odor control media and Inflow Protectors eliminate both problems, while built-in pressure relief valves allow the Manhole to “breathe.”
Combined Inflow Protectors and Manhole Inserts are an Economical Solution to EPA storm water regulations running into lakes, rivers, and other waterways, and can promote Economic Growth. Storm water treatment cost is a major problem. The Environmental Industry is being called upon to insure that storm water is treated efficiently.
Combined Inflow Protectors and Manhole Inserts that are filled with Xpellets chemical media is used to absorb oils, PCBs, and other toxins while disinfecting water that passes through them. Xpellets are Silica Gel impregnated with Chlorine Dioxide. Chlorine Dioxide is more effective than Chlorine against Viruses, Bacteria, and Protozoa- including the Cysts of Giardia and the Oocysts of Cryptosporidium. Chlorine Dioxide Technology is used as an oxidant for phenol destruction in the storm water stream as well as the sensible solution for commercial odor control.
Combined Manhole Inserts and Inflow protection must have a design to provide generous venting through the patented oxidizing and polishing Xpallet chemical media. Oxidation is accomplished with Chlorine Dioxide Technology. For example, one pound is equivalent in oxidation power to 2.5 pounds of Chlorine. Because Chlorine Dioxide reacts selectively and primarily with only the most offensive odor producing compounds of Hydrogen Sulfide, Organic Sulfurs, and Organic Amines, it will normally provide a longer service life in commercial application than Activated Carbon alone while addressing a similar broad-spectrum malodor control. Unwanted reactions do not occur. Power is not needlessly spent. Chlorine Dioxide remains available and ready on demand.
Polishing is accomplished with Zeocarbon Technology that protects against the escape of malodors, which cannot be readily oxidized by the Chlorine Dioxide media. It incorporates polymeric absorption and electrostatic bonding technologies. Polishing after oxidization is accomplished by keeping the Zeocarbon media separated from the Xpellet media. The result is safe; it utilizes the same material approved for food storage by the United States Department of Agriculture, extremely effective, broad-spectrum malodor control.
Several U.S. manufacturers make combined Manhole Inserts and Inflow Protectors to exact size from virtually indestructible material. They are simple to install, long lasting product that eliminates Oil, Grease, and Bacteria from rain water before discharge from the collection system, and they eliminate odors from the Manholes and no more Manhole cover rattle noise.

My Solution For Selling A Home In A Down Market
Are you a real estate agent or a homeowner trying to sell a home in this down housing market?
When I put my home market I had the heat pump checked by the manufacturer’s approved service company to be sure that it was operating properly and efficiently.
I had the plumbing, plumbing fixtures including solar water heaters and septic tank system with it Solar Aerator checked out by qualified service companies. I had the Septic Tank Solar Aerator installed to avoid additional electric charges and to prolong the life of the drain field.
I had the windows, screens, windowsills, doors and storm doors cleaned and checked to be sure that they were all working properly without squeaking.
I had the roofing checked and the gutters cleaned. While the roofing contractor was on the roof I had new odor eliminator media socks installed in my roof vent filters. I did not want a repeat of what had happened before I installed the filters on all the roof vent pipes. I had sewer gas being pulled into the house through the fresh air vents on the heat pump when it was running, in the widows when they were open. Many a pool party was ruined when the breeze changed and the rotten egg odor migrated to the pool area. Sometimes when there was little or no breeze the odor came in the exhaust vents in the bathrooms or kitchen when they were turned off.
I had the chimneys checked to be sure there was no creosote build up, the cause of chimney fires.
I had the closets and storage space; basement and attics; garages and outbuildings; cabinets and appliances all checked to be sure that they were in excellent working order.
I did the same thing in the garden and pool area; I didn’t want any surprises. We had built the property originally as energy efficient as possible when it was constructed.
We sold the property in a short time at our asking price, so we fill we made the right decisions when preparing to market our home.

Check Carefully Before You Purchase A Vent For Your Stink Pipe
IT IS Absolutely Illegal In Every Plumbing Code in Every State and In the European Union to Place Any Type OF Valve in a Roof Top Sewer/Septic Tank Vent Stack
Before you buy a filter for an odor eliminator for your roof top sewer/septic tank vent stack, check them all out. Be sure the one you pick meets all plumbing and building codes.
Remember you system will not operate as it is designed with a valve in the sewer/septic tank stack. The mechanical engineers design the sewer/septic tank venting system to be a sealed system in the buildings but free open venting to the atmosphere. Beware of any system that restricts the original design in all building designs. A system with a valve that opens with the flush of a toilet and closes when operation is complete, does the same thing when you wash your hands, take a shower or bath, run the washer or dish washer, it is opening and closing continuously until it fails. And it will fail!
When it fails, if you are lucky it will fail open to the roof, and the “Rotten Egg” smell, Hydrogen Sulfide (H2$) and other malodorous compounds will vent to the atmosphere, of course now you have the same problem you got rid of for a short while!
Worst than fails open, if it fails closed your plumbing system will not work until you get a ladder, climb up on the roof, remove the faulty vent, replace the vent or attempt to fix the valve on the vent.

Check This Product Out To Impove Septic Tank Opperation
There are many products on the Internet that claim they improve Septic Tank operation. I, like most owners of homes with Septic Tank Sewer Systems, have tried many products to improve the systems operation, lengthen pumping cycles, and lengthen the life of the drainage field. Some help, some are useless. I have found Bio-R that I flush down a commode once a month really does make the septic tank and greywater reuse system work odor free. By adding this product, which is a specially blended formula in a 2-ounce packet of approximately 300 million bacterial organisms, to my system it stimulates the biological activity present in my system to eliminate and reduce those problematic areas, resulting in tremendous savings for me.
In researching Bio-R I found it had been in use for many years in the treatment of drains, wastewater, greywater, reuse, and backwater recycle. Rod Pennington who has worked and had much experience in the wastewater industry developed it. Most of its applications have been directed towards the safe, cost efficient and environmentally friendly elimination of odors, greases and sludge within wastewater systems.
The technology can be used to treat tremendous amounts of wastewater with only ounces of media. As a satisfied customer I want to spread the word about Bio-R to all homeowners with septic tanks or cesspools, and the folks that treat wastewater in your hometown.
